What our children can learn from the Russia Vs Ukraine war?

By M.O.Marsaoui

Well, as teachers or parents we have always been pushed and encouraged to teach our children and students about critical thinking and adopting an "Out of the box" approach towards the status quo.

Looking to the western media, and news we become naturally dragged to choose one out of two camps :

Either you are a "Kind & Brave" standing for Ukraine, or an"Unscrupulous Invader" standing for Russia

But why can't we just be "Against War" ?!

Why do we have to think in a so radical way?

Why is it so that "Passport" is becoming more important than the "Human being"?

Can it be, eventually that some people in Russia / Ukraine are just "Against War" just for the sake of the loss it will cause and no more?

All of the thinking is "Consequences oriented" and not "Purpose Oriented"!

"Yes it is sad to see a catastrophe and drama making machine, running in front of us, at an insane speed, and feeling useless "

But what about :

  • The 10,000 children, who are dying every day from hunger and related causes. Some 854 million people worldwide are estimated to be undernourished, and high food prices may drive another 100 million into poverty and hunger.
  • The 21,000 children who applied for asylum and arrived in the country of refuge alone, with no parent or guardian according to the most recent global figures published by UNHCR.
  • The ratio of Syrian children refugees who are suffering from irreversible diseases just for the fact of undernutrition.

The list is long, is obvious, and is just around us but just that we are somehow blind.

Now the point here is that instead of showing our kids which one of both camps to stand for, better to let them understand that there is still a third option!
